C.A.M.P. University is preparing for its 10th annual “A Night at the Races” gala. The McAllen Convention Center is the venue for the festive event scheduled for Tuesday, May 5, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. The evening will feature the special needs young adults of C.A.M.P. University and support the programs that enrich their lives and help to train them for life after high school.
“A Night at the Races” attendees are encouraged to wear hats that would be appropriate for the Kentucky Derby. Ladies will be included in the hat contest for Most Colorful Hat, Fanciest Hat, and Grand Champion Hat. There will even be a men’s category for the Most Dapper Hat. Upon arrival at the convention center guests will be welcomed with signature drinks, then be greeted by some of the CAMPers (C.A.M.P. University students.) Lively music will draw guests through the lobby during check-in. Guests may choose to wager Derby Dollars at the betting windows on horse races that will be shown on large screens in the ballroom. A drawing will be held at the end of the evening for prizes for race winners and for a consolation prize. A delicious dinner will be served while guests hear how the programs offered by C.A.M.P. University positively affect our growing special needs population in the RGV. Silent and Live auctions will keep the evening exciting, culminating with a raffle for a Rolex watch sponsored by Deutsch & Deutsch. Tickets for the Rolex raffle are available today and are $100 each. The winner need not attend the gala, but will be contacted. Sponsorships are available, gala tickets, and Rolex raffle tickets are on sale at CAMP University or Rio Bank. Every year we receive actual horse racing videos, and every year they are different. The program you receive upon entering the event lists all the horses participating in the races that night as well as some hot tips. You will also be given derby dollars with which you can place your bets with our highly-trained bookies. If your horse wins, you will be given tickets for a raffle drawing. Not a winner? Not a problem. You'll still get a raffle ticket for a consolation raffle.

Hat Competition
Raffle items will be available. Just purchase your raffle tickets during the event near the "Top Hat Raffle" table. If you plan to place your bet on a horse race you my be able to win a prize as well with no purchase necessary. Odds do increase if you purchase derby dollars.
If you can't attend the event but still want to participate you can purchase a raffle ticket for a Rolex watch. The winner will be drawn that night but attendance is not required.
We will feature live and silent auctions throughout the night. There is always a wide variety of items such as gift cards, wine, art, trips, services, home decor, sporting items, jewelry, and electronics, just to name a few. A list of donors and auction items will be added soon.
No horse racing event would be complete without lots of fancy hats. Show off your style with a chance to win prizes.
